IR receiver circuitry

I’m trying to design the receiver circuitry for an IR link that
detects 1MHz signals at least 70cm away. Currently I’m using an Optek
photodiode (OP999) with OPA380 as my transimpedance amplifier, an op-
amp after the transimpedance amp to further amplify the voltage and a
comparator to reconstruct the transmitted signal.
At the moment I’m just pulsing a 1MHz square wave through my IR
emitter but the output from the transimpedance amplifier does not come
out square! Can anyone suggest an IC transimpedance amp that will work
for 1MHz signals across an IR link? (the OPA380 has a 1MHz bandwidth –
hence the distortion at the output).
Also, using just the OPA380 with a capacitor (to remove the varying
offset) and a low pass filter I can meet the 70cm requirement. However
with the op-amp and the comparator, I can only get about 20cm (if even
that). Am I missing some fundamental component that is ultimately
causing my receiver to fail?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

What is this component?

Hi All,

http://imajr.com/mystery_component_142530

I’m trying to figure what this component is and where I could get some
of them.

It makes a sound when it’s shaken as if there’s a small bit loose
inside, I think it’s probably a motion sensor of some kind.

Any thoughts?

WTB: Mallory/Sprague Photoflash Capacitors 140/450V Low ESR…

Looking for a few (5ish) 140/450VDC low ESR caps as used for Strobe
light power supplies. These have two 10/32 bolts on raised studs on one
end (Radial-like) and are series 36D POWERLYTIC.

Thanks,

John :-#)#

How build a decent battery tester?

How can I build myself a decent battery tester for domestic use?  Are
there any circuits?  Any info about off-the-shelf equipment? (I am in
the UK).

Of course I don’t want to spend more cash than I save in batteries,
so there is a limit budget.

At the moment I use an ordinary digital multimeter which has a
setting to put the cell under a load of approx (a) 10mA or (b) 150
mA.

At present the *main* cells I would like to test are AAA and AA cells
made of NiMH, NiCd, manganese-alkaline or zinc chloride

I would like to have a device which simultaneously shows the current
and voltage of a cell under load.  And then it would be useful to
simulate different loads – perhaps using a variable resistor?

If it’s not too hard to also get a display of the internal resistance
of the cell that I’m told that can be useful.  I gather that internal
resistance of rechargeables can show the battery’s state of health.
However int resistance increases as the theoretical max capacity
increases and I guess this means that absolute calibration is not
possible, however perhaps internal resistance varies during charge
and is an indicator of capacity?

Thanks for any info.

Ultrasonic transducers/tweeters

Where can I get cheap high frequency sound generators. I was thinking of
something like the sirens in smoke alarms that I can drive at their
fundamental frequency or at harmonics.

Another possibility is piezoelectric film that I saw demonstrated many years
ago.

Searching for SONY CXA1331M IC

Hi,
I am looking for SONY CXA1331M DOLBY B/C surface mount IC to repair my car
cassette radio.  I did a search on Internet but I cannot find any source for
this particular one.  I am wondering if someone on this newsgroups can
direct me the source and I am willing to but in small amount of qualities if
necessary.  I am willing to fix the player since I cannot find any Dolby B/C
cassette car radio anymore.  Thanks for the information and I am very
appreciate.

Looking forward to hear any information soon.

Texas Instruments – Nothing in stock

Has anyone else had recent problems with TI. It seems everytime I am
looking at one of their products for an application, nothing is in
stock (not even for sampling)

In particular their whole XTR 4-20 mA transmitters, their 4-20 mA
receiver RCV420, and the ISO124 isolation amplifier
