I recently aquired a mac II. Worked fine untill I plugged in a modem that uses ADB for 5volt supply. I
cut the ADB connector from the modem and was using it with a mac plus, and got power from
seperate power supply. When I got the mac II I reconnected the ADB jack incorrectly and when I
started up the computer the mouse and keyboard didn’t work. The computer still displays and
seems to be fine with the exception of the mouse and keyboard. I was told that there was not any
hope and the whole board was wasted. Is there only one faulty component , an ADB chip that I can
replace the damaged one with

There’s a book called "The Dead Mac Scrolls" by Larry Pina, all about
fixing your Mac. Often, the ADB port can easily be fixed, there’s a filter
that gets zapped. Get a copy of the book and give it a shot.

With luck you’ve just fried the ADB fuse (F2) lies about an inch inland
of the outside mouse socket. Without luck you’ve stuffed the ABD chip
(UB13) 2 inches inland of the modem socket. Just go down to your
friendly local apple dealer and buy another one for $9.95…….joke –
those *&&$%#@@!s willwant to install another motherboard for 3x the
value of the machine. Bettre off scrounging a chip off another kaput
mac2 board (with a *different* fault). Apple’s service policies seem to
strongly discourage any repair that costs less than a new machine.
